Trenton Domestic Violence Victim Speaks About Cops Saving Her

Posted: Updated:

"My heart goes out to them. If it wasn't for them that could have been me," said Yama Blue praising the two Trenton Police detectives who saved her life.

"He pointed the gun at me and I ran. The cops told me to run," she said.

When detectives brought Yama back to her Hobart Street home Thursday after she went to them for help saying she was a victim of domestic violence, she identified 23-year old Eric McNeill as her attacker.

"He came out just shooting," said the 30-year old victim. Detective James Letts and Edgar Rios told her to run for her life. When she did, McnNeill shot the officers.

"He would have shot me. The officers saved my life. They took a bullet for me."

As gunfire erupted, McNeill was shot and died in the street. Meanwhile, Yama ran to her friend Abby Mack's house.

"I was trying to keep her safe," said Mack.

Detective Letts was shot in the shoulder. He was released from the hospital Friday. Detective Rios was shot in the back several times and remains in the hospital after the most recent surgery Friday morning. Yama says she knows Rios personally since she was a kid and that he's always looked out for her knowing the things she's been through.

"I feel bad he got shot. I'm so sorry," said Yama.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
