Veteran Actor Dick Van Dyke Has Close Call On Highway

Veteran actor Dick Van Dyke was pulled from a smoldering car just before it burst into flames.

He was driving in his Jaguar on the 101 freeway in Los Angeles today. The 87 year old says he pulled over when he heard a noise. A group of motorists saw him slumped over in the smoking car and pulled him out.

Van Dyke says he didn't pass out, but was bent over trying to use his cell phone to call for help. Van Dyke wasn't injured, but his Jaguar was destroyed by the subsequent flames.

Dick Van Dyke is an Emmy winning, Grammy winning, and tony winning actor and performer. He is best remembered for playing Albert Peterson in "Bye Bye Birdie" and Bert in "Mary Poppins." The Dick Van Dyke show that he starred in was well-received and ran for 158 episodes in the 1960s.
