Man charged with severe infant beating has previous criminal record

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

Ronald Dimambro Jr.'s family was in court Friday afternoon, when he was charged in the beating of 2-year-old Damian Sutton. Investigators say Dimambro's father was in a separate area of the house at the time of the alleged beating. He and Dimambro's mother declined any kind of comment.

But Dimambro's aunt spoke out, saying,  "We can't tell you anything - nothing's been said. It's accusations. All the accusations are coming from the baby's family. We can't tell you anything. Everything will come out in court."

Damian's family members tell FOX 2 Dimambro repeatedly punched and kicked the 2-year-old, who remains on life support Friday at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. Macomb County Sheriff investigators say Dimambro eventually admitted to shaking the child. He was babysitting the boy at his parent's house, where Dimambro is said to be living.

Now Dimambro is behind bars, charged with first degree child abuse, and this is not Dimambro's first offense. A fairly extensive background shows past offenses include minor in possession, operating while impaired, and identity theft. Damian's mother, Nikki Sutton, also does not believe this alleged abuse was an accident.

"I know this is not just some freak abuse accident. It was attempted murder, I can feel it, and I feel like he should be charged with it."

Throughout the whole process though, Sutton remains hopefully that her son will pull through.

"I know in my heart that my son will be okay, because he's strong. I believe he's a miracle. Damian is a fighter. He's died once already and came back to life. I need strong prayers, not feeling sorry for Damian, but feeling strong for Damian."
