NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD say a man was arrested in the shooting of a young boy inside a Brooklyn apartment Saturday early morning.

Authorities charged 22-year-old Bernard Akeem on Sunday with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the boy was shot at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday inside an apartment located at East 21st Street and Dorchester Road in the Flatbush section.

The boy was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center where he is in stable condition.

Akeem lives in the same building as the boy, according to police and is in custody awaiting arraignment. He faces a charge of tampering with evidence.

Police say their investigation is ongoing and have not released the child's name.
