Armed man arrested in police involved shooting

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD says two police officers fired at a suspect after they say he pointed a gun at them in Harlem early Saturday morning.

Police say three plain-clothes officers were on patrol in an unmarked car when they heard gunshots at West 111th Street and Lenox Avenue. The officers then saw the 27-year-old suspect with a gun in his hand.

One officer exited the unmarked police vehicle approached the man. When the man raised his gun in the officer's direction, the two other officers fired. The suspect apparently was not hit.

The suspect then fled the scene about 3:00 a.m. but he was arrested minutes later on West 112th Street near Fifth Avenue. Police say the man threw away a silver Smith and Wesson .357 caliber revolver as he was running. The gun was found on West 111th Street between 5th and Lenox Avenues.

The officers were taken to St. Luke's Hospital for tinnitus.

Charges against the suspect are pending and the criminal investigation continues.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
