Detroit Firefighters looking for volunteers for neighborhood cleanup

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit Firefighters are cleaning up neighborhoods Thursday and Friday, and are looking for volunteers to help.

The initiative begins Thursday, August 29, at 9AM. Crews will bring donated plywood to board up houses, and supplies to clean up the houses. The day will begin at Campbell and Horatio Streets in Southwest Detroit.

They'll move door to door, block by block, boarding up the abandoned homes and offering free smoke detectors to any family who needs one. The smoke detectors come courtesy of the Detroit Red Wings.
