WWII Veteran Reunited With Dog Tags 67 Years Later

Posted: Updated:

A World War II veteran lives to see a day he never thought would come.

"It felt like I was picking up an old jewel that I had missed. I actually fell down and cried," he says.

On Wednesday, 92-year-old Jahue Munday met with the couple who found his dog tags. His tags had been missing for 67 years.

"I said, 'that is it.' Then I just fell on my knees and cried," Mundy recalls.

The couple found the tags while digging in the garden of their backyard in Mooreland, Indiana.

Munday served four years in the marine corps. He spent time in Iwo Jima and Okinawa, before being shipped to China. He says he his tags were lost in China.

"I had been sending silk stuff to my wife," says Mundy. "The only thing I can think of is that dog tag got [lost] in one of them packages."

Mundy earned a purple heart during his time in service. His son, Mike, keeps it at his home.

"I just think he will take care of them and I could lose them pretty easily at my age. It is the best thing to do," says Mundy.
