Baby Girl Survives Transplant, Community Renovates Family Home

"Alright, they're on the way," says Kathy Anderson.

This is a ride home that's been nearly a year in the making.

"I can't even put into words how exciting it is," Anderson says.

The limo door opens as the anticipation reached its peak. Then out steps a father, holding his baby girl who survived a broken heart. Standing there to welcome them were cheers from neighbors.

"It's the best day of our lives," he says.

"It's like the day she was born. To get Jaelyn to come home and to actually make it home is a miracle," Kathy Anderson, Jaelyn's grandmother.

"I'm glad you're home," she tells her family.

To realize just how much of a miracle it is for Jaelyn Anderson to make it here with her parents, Brooke and Joshua, you'll have go back to February. That's when Jaelyn found out she'd receive the new heart she'd been waiting for since October.

The one she was born with was just too big.

"You never know what you have until it's put on the line," says Brooke Anderson, Jaelyn's mother.

As the tiny fighter battled for her life, an entire community stepped up.

"Thank you community..." says the family to their neighbors.

These people donated time, supplies and money, then spent the last few months renovating a home that was filled with black mold and was unlivable.

Jaelyn, Brooke and Joshua hadn't been inside until Saturday morning.

"The shelves are up. They made it," tells Kathy.

"It was the most exciting thing of my life," says Joshua Anderson, Jaelyn's father.

And after months of worrying about possible lasts, this family is finally experiencing so many firsts, like the first welcome home from neighbors.

"I was trying not to cry. I was trying to hold it back," Joshua Anderson says.

This is the first day of a long, healthy life for their daughter. But before that, the first night at home.

"I'm looking forward to my bed tonight in my house," reflects Joshua Anderson.
