CHINA GROVE, N.C. -

A family with a special needs child got an unexpected and heartwarming letter while eating at a diner.

According to WBTV, Ashley England's family was dining out on a Friday evening when their 8-year-old son, Riley, got a "little rowdy."

Riley has had three major brain surgeries for epilepsy and doesn't talk. It's been especially tough these past weeks, Ashley tells WBTV, when they go to public outings. At this particular diner, Riley was banging on the table, and it was clear that a few customers were getting aggravated.

But then a waitress walked by with tears in her eyes, as she handed Ashley a note. A mystery diner had paid for their meal and left a note for Ashley. The note read, "God only gives special children to special people."

Ashley saw the note and cried too.

"To have someone do that small act towards us shows that some people absolutely understand what we are going through and how hard it is to face the public sometimes," Ashley told WBTV. "That made me cry, blessed me more than they know - I felt like out of all the rude negative comments that we are faced with - these outweighs them. The people who care!"

Ashley wants to thank the person who paid for the meal and sent the encouraging words.
