Teen runs from police, hides out on roof

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit Police officers end a multi-hour long standoff with the arrest of a 17-year-old who refused to come down from the roof of a building on Algonquin St.

Officers armed themselves with rifles and bulletproof vests as they believe the teen was also armed.

Police have not confirmed this, but Fox 2's Randy Wimbley talked to some friends of the suspect, and they tell Wimbley the teen was in a juvenile detention program after involving himself in a robbery. The program allowed him to come home on weekends, and the teen did not report back. A warrant was then issued.

Police say the ordeal began around 9:30AM Tuesday morning, when they responded to a disturbance call at the teens' home. We're told he did not cooperate, leading to the multi-hour standoff on the roof.

The standoff eventually ended when the suspect crawled into a 2nd floor window, where police immediately took him into custody.
