High Profile Coatesville School Resignations Unexplained

Posted: Updated:

FOX 29's Bruce Gordon was outside the Coatesville Area School District headquarters building, trying to find answers about the departure of at least two high profile district employees within the past week. District Superintendent and education veteran, Richard Como, announced his departure on August 29th, effective just four days later. In a goodbye note posted to the district website, Como said, simply, "the timing is right."

FOX 29 went to Como's Coatesville home, but no one answered the door.

Then came news that senior high school athletic director Jim Donato had resigned, though no departure date was given. A third high profile resignation was also rumored, but no one at the district headquarters would comment and the district solicitor did not return Bruce's call. Parents like Warren Scott, with two kids in Coatesville schools, are concerned about the timing.

"That really would be nice to know why did you resign, you know what I mean, especially in the beginning of the school year and things are just starting. Now they are in the process of finding somebody to replace the person to do your job," says Scott.

With the new school year just beginning, folks at Coatesville wonder why two high profile leaders have left. They are worried kids will suffer.

"They don't need these issues to be taking place right now. They just don't. It is not right. It is not fair to the parent out here or anyone in this community that has children going to the schools here in Coatesville. It is just not fair. We deserve answers," says Robin McCain, a resident.

At a school board meeting, set for the 24th, it is possible that residents will learn more about the departures at that time. At least some parents seem willing to wait. A PTO leader at a local elementary schools told FOX 29 that district officials announced the resignation to their group this week, without explanation. That information, she predicted, will come, in good time.
