PHOENIX -

A young valley boxer was found in his home with severe head trauma. He died a short time later. There have been no arrests in the crime yet.

That 17-year-old passed away Thursday morning at the hospital. Police have very few leads, and the family is speaking out, hoping someone has information on who killed this aspiring athlete.

"This is his gym. He spent more time here than at home. He was here all the time," said Sulem Urbina Soto.

"We were just here on Monday training together, on Monday training together."

Sulem's training partner and brother is gone.

"We don't understand absolutely anything."

17-year-old Alexis Urbina was found badly hurt at his home on Tuesday. Police say he was badly beaten with multiple blows to the head. This morning he died at the hospital.

"For a kid so young 17 years old, at an age when most kids are worried about going out all the time and having fun, he was worried about winning national tournaments for boxing. He was ranked number one in the U.S."

Urbina was well on his way to becoming an Olympian. He planned to make the 2016 boxing team. He was ranked as the number one boxer his age in the nation.

"He was always so proud to be Team USA."

The family says so much potential was lost in a crime they don't understand.

"I'm angry. It doesn't -- I can't comprehend who would do this to a kid, a 17-year-old kid, a kid with so much to go for. We need to find who did this to him they took so much from our family."

Anyone with information is asked to call Phoenix PD. His death is being considered a homicide, but officers are waiting for an autopsy for more details.

"We are perplexed with the case and looking for any help that can be provided to us by any resident that has any information," says Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump.

There were no signs of forced entry, but some property may be missing from the home.
