EVANSTON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man implying he had a gun robbed a north suburban bank of more than $2,500 Friday afternoon.

The robber entered the Chase Bank branch in the 900 block of Grove Street in Evanston about 3:30 p.m., and gave a teller a note implying he had a gun and demanding money, according to Evanston police. He never displayed a weapon.

The teller gave the man more than $2,600 cash and he left the bank, a statement from police said. No one was injured.

The robber is described as a 35- to 45-year-old white or Hispanic man, about 5-foot-8 with a heavy build, police said. He wore a black baseball cap, sunglasses, blue button-down shirt and black pants, and carried a dark backpack with a green zipper.

Surveillance cameras last show the man walking east on Grove Street across Sherman Avenue, police said.

The FBI, which believes the man is in his 20s, is offering a reward and anyone with information should call (312) 421-6700.
