Driver dies in semi rollover that spilled oil on I-80
MINOOKA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A semi truck has died after a roll over crash on Interstate 80 that spilling vegetable oil on the road and temporarily closing both lanes of traffic Monday morning in Minooka, authorities said.
The semi was traveling west on I-80 near the Ridge Road exit in Minooka when it crossed the center median and rolled in the eastbound lanes at 9:23 a.m., Illinois State Police Joliet District Sgt. Scott Angus said. No other vehicles were involved.
The semi driver was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Angus said.
Crews had to clean up the waste spilled from the semi, Angus said, although the oil is not considered a hazardous material.
The westbound lanes were reopened about 10:45 a.m. and all lanes of traffic were reopened by 1:30 p.m.
