CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Two Northwest Side men have been charged after Chicago Police found them in possession of nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana worth almost $7 million.

Manuel Mata, 37, of the 4400 block of North Melvina Avenue, was charged with one count each of felony possession of cannabis, misdemeanor having a gun without a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card and misdemeanor not having a firearm registration certificate, according to a Chicago Police release.

Joaquin Muneton, 39, of the 3500 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, was charged with one count of felony possession of cannabis, police said.

Narcotics officers had been watching a home in the 4400 block of North Melvina Avenue and found 950 pounds of cannabis and a .22 caliber gun when executing a search warrant early Monday, police said. It was not immediately known if the drugs were found in Mata and Muneton's homes or elsewhere on the blocks where they lived.

The officers found an additional 10 pounds of drugs and $36,000 in cash in the 3500 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, police said. In total, the drugs have a street value of $6.9 million.

Mata and Muneton are expected in bond court Tuesday.
