Tattoos are typically taboo in beauty pageants, but now one Miss America contestant decided to bare more than her abs on stage.
Miss Kansas, Theresa Vail, showed off her ink during the swimsuit portion of the competition. It happened at a preliminary event for Miss America.
Vail is the first contestant in the history of the pageant to expose a tattoo. The beauty queen is also a member of the National Guard.
For the talent competition, Vail wanted to show off her skills as an archer but officials wouldn't allow it because it barns any projectile objects.
Vail said she's showering her tattoos because it's part of her platform to empower women and overcome stereotypes.
