Inmate arraigned in Detroit courthouse escape

DETROIT, Mich. (AP) -

An inmate who eluded police for 14 hours after stabbing a sheriff's deputy with a comb and escaping a Detroit courthouse in the deputy's uniform has been arraigned on attempted murder and other charges.

A Detroit judge on Thursday ordered 25-year-old Abraham Pearson held without bond pending a Sept. 23 preliminary examination.

Pearson was arrested Monday night following a citizen's call to 911.

Authorities say that 63-year-old Wayne County Deputy Harrison Tolliver was stabbed in the neck about 8 a.m. Monday with the sharpened end of a plastic comb while taking off Pearson's handcuffs in a courtroom holding area.

Pearson fled and hid in a vacant house as officers scoured Detroit for him.

He was in court Monday to be sentenced for armed robbery.

Tolliver was treated for his injuries.
