Family Is Identified From Lost Camera Found At Mt. Whitney

Posted: Updated:

Thanks to FOX 11 News, a lost camera full of five-years-worth of family photos is being reunited with its owner.

Wednesday night, we told our viewers and readers about how hikers on Mt. Whitney found the camera on September 5 and, after a week of trying to find the owner, came to us for help. We told the story on air and posted it on our website and on Facebook. The sampling of photos was shared by more than 1,500 viewers of our Facebook page and seen by more than 100,000 people. The photos contained clues to the owner... shots of family... visits to Angel Stadium… even shots of Hawthorne police cars.

The outreach worked.

Thursday morning, John Morrison -- a Hawthorne resident -- woke up to several phone messages, all saying they had seen his photo on our Facebook page. We caught up with him at his home Thursday afternoon as he called Lyn and Matt Bratton of Ridgecrest, the hikers who found the camera on the trail. John said he was grateful that they had come forward, that it restored his faith in his fellow man and woman. There were a lot of memories on the camera and he is thrilled to be getting it back.

The reunion is planned for Saturday.
