The wildly-popular sport of auto racing comes to the Chicago suburbs. NASCAR's smart, female fan base is growing, and it's sure to gain more followers at the Joliet Speedway this weekend!

The numbers don't lie. One in three Americans follows NASCAR, and the incredibly loyal fan base is an estimated 75 million people strong, spending close to $2 billion in merchandise every year.

The once male-dominated sport now has a fan base that is 60% men and 40% women and growing. A NASCAR spokesperson said the sport draws an average of 2 million female viewers each time a race is broadcast.

NASCAR attributes it to its family friendly atmosphere and female drivers like Illinois native Danica Patrick.

Good Day Chicago visited the speedway as the drivers, their crews and the fans got ready for the upcoming race!
