Ga. teachers' EpiPen lesson to help students with allergies

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A bite of a cookie or the sting from an insect can be enough to cause a life-threatening reaction in children who suffer from severe allergies.

When that happens, time is critical. You can call 911, but paramedics may or may not reach you in time. Now, Georgia schools are putting a back-up safeguard close at-hand to help students with allergies.

The hand-hand, tube-like vessels are called EpiPens. They're emergency epinephrine injectors. Some children with allergies always carry their EpiPen with them.

Now, Georgia is one of seven states to allow schools to stock the EpiPens – just in case. Teachers are getting a crash course in how to properly use the emergency epinephrine injectors.
