NEWARK, N.J. -

The FBI is asking for the public's assistance to identify a repeat sex offender who is wanted in New Jersey.

Police are looking for Joseph Anthony Caracciolo after a complaint and arrest warrant were issued by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office charging an individual believed to be Joseph Crillo.

The suspect was not positively identified in a "John Doe" warrant alleging aggravated sexual assault of a minor younger than 13 years old, police say.

Now, the FBI in Newark says Caracciolo goes by several different aliases including Joseph Crillo, Joseph Grillo, and Tony Gallardo.

On Aug. 30, he was charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of New Jersey in a federal complaint with traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with another person younger than 18.

Federal complaint records report Caracciolo traveled between New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to sexually abuse a minor female from approximately May 2012 to August 2012. The girl was under the age of 13 at the time of the alleged abuse.

Caracciolo traveled from New York to Atlantic County, N. J., as well as locations in Pennsylvania, to see her, the FBI says.

Caracciolo is a registered sex offender listed in the national Sex Offender Public Website. He has been in violation of the sex offender registration requirements since August 2005.

Police report that Caracciolo traveled extensively and may have resided in the Orlando, Boca Raton and Palm Beach areas of Florida during the early- to mid-1990s, and from 2003 to 2005 he was in the Sacramento and San Bernardino areas of California.

He is also may have traveled or lived in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Virginia.

Caracciolo has several tattoos including, one of Ivy on his left ring finger, a chef in a chef's hat with the words "Top Chef," and an underlying quote on the forearm, a cancer ribbon with boxing gloves on forearm, the initials "AJ" on the inner left wrist, the letter "M" on inner right wrist, the initials "NY" on the left upper arm, as well as an "X" between the webbing of the thumb and index finger.

If you have information concerning Joseph Anthony Caracciolo, police are asking you to contact the FBI's tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
