A family is in mourning, after 39-year-old mother of five Martha Sanchez was fatally shot during a robbery at a 99 cent store in South Los Angeles, where she was closing up shop at around 9pm last night.
Her eldest daughter, Gabriella Sanchez says about her mother, "she spent her whole life working and I've seen her since I was little getting home late, tired, exhausted and she'll still put a smile on her face she'll make us laugh."
Police say they have high quality surveillance video of the suspect they would only describe as a black man around 30 years old.
They believe the gunman shot Sanchez multiple times despite her not putting up a fight during the robbery. The suspect then fled the store on foot heading south on Broadway near 75th street.
Now five children, the youngest three years old, are left without a mother.
Gabriella says, "She was my role model and she was my best friend, she was everything to me and now she's gone and it's not fair this man took her away from us."
Throughout the day, Wednesday, area customers and friends of Sanchez left flowers and candles outside the store, which was closed. They all remember her as very friendly and a hard worker. She worked the night shift alone and was responsible for closing.
Officials say it's another senseless crime in South LA, shattering so many lives, over so little.
Deut. Eric Crosson, "It's a 99 cent store, how much could it possibly be it's got to be less than $200 dollars, no matter, if it was two hundred thousand dollars it's not worth this woman's life"
Police are urging any witnesses to come forward with information and ultimately have this message to the suspect, turn yourself in.
