13-Year-Old Crowdfunding Her Own Horror Movie

VINELAND, N.J. -

Halloween is just around the corner, and while some of us are thinking about which new horror movie to see, a 13-year-old New Jersey girl is about to direct one. But she needs the public's help, so she launched an online campaign.

"Hi I'm Emily Diprimio and I love watching horror movies," she says.

"What is it you like about horror films?" asks FOX 29's Kelly Hessedal

"I like the adrenaline you get and how it brings out your worst nightmares," says Diprimio.

"I did recreate a zombie movie when I was five," she also recalls.

And now, 13-year-old Emily Diprimio is about to direct a horror film that she co-wrote with her dad.

The movie is called Carver, an 80s style Slasher film. The premise of it is: a group of teens are stalked by a mass killer. They have to figure out who and why before they all die.

To help fund the film, she turned to Kickstarter, a website where strangers can donate money to your cause in exchange for a little thank-you gift.

Dad Ron, who's done some directing himself, helped out.

"So, as a self-professed horror movie junkie/nerd, yes, this was a dream come true. It is," Ron Diprimio tells FOX 29.

"You must be pretty proud of her. Only 13," says Hessedal.

"Absolutely, she blows me away every day," he says.

"This is the weapon Carver, our killer, will be using," says Emily. "These are our prototypes Carver masks."

"What is it about directing you like?" asks Hessedal.

"I like telling people what to do," Emily says. "It's fun when you have an idea in your head and [then] watching it come together."

Her advice to other kids out there:

"Do whatever you want to do. Don't let anyone stop you," she says.

And the film is well into preproduction. Now Emily and her dad have already scouted plenty of creepy spots. They plan to shoot the entire film in New Jersey in Vineland.

And Emily's dad was quick to point out that before she was able to sit down for her FOX 29 interview, she had to finish her math homework first.
