Man in wheelchair arrested in bag thefts

Posted: Updated:

New York City police have arrested a 25-year-old man in a robbery spree where a wheelchair-bound suspect snatched handbags from women in fancy Manhattan locales.

Matias Moreno-Boza was arrested Friday evening on four counts of grand larceny. Police say the Perth Amboy, N.J.-resident is in a wheelchair. He was in custody and it wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

The NYPD says he is believed to be behind the robberies of three victims whose bags were taken inside the Marriot Marquis Hotel  and two restaurants.

On Monday Aug. 19, the man took a bag from a 42-year-old woman inside the hotel that contained a wallet, an iPad, a necklace and money, said police.

Then on Friday Aug. 30, police say he took the bag of a 34-year-old woman that had credit cards and money inside the high-end 57th Street restaurant Nobu.

On Sept. 3, police say he took a 40-year-old woman's bag with a wallet, credit cards and money from the Havana Central Restaurant.
