Police Arrest 1 Suspect In Pharmacy Robbery, Murder

Posted: Updated:

Police say they have caught up with the man who they say murdered a Delaware County Rite Aid pharmacy manager and a former Navy veteran on Thursday night.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reported live from Chester on Saturday night that police are still looking for a second suspect.

But the police commissioner in Chester was visibly moved when he announced the first arrest in this case.

We're told that several police departments and jurisdictions worked to make this arrest happen.

"I want to say it gives me great pleasure to announce this arrest, but I'm actually ecstatic," Chester Police Commissioner Joseph Bail Jr. said.

David Wiggins, 24, was arrested on charges of first-, second- and third-degree murder for the shooting death of 40-year-old Rite Aid worker, Jason McClay, of Broomall, on Thursday night.

"This crime is particularly heinous and brutal," Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan said.

Delaware County authorities say they had images and information on the shooter within four hours of the incident, and they worked with investigators in Philadelphia to locate Wiggins at a house.

They say he tried to escape through a back door once officers arrived to take him in.

"Once he knew the presence of police, then he tried to leave his area," Whelan said.

Investigators say Wiggins and a female complies tried to rob McClay minutes before he was closing up for the night. A scuffle ensued, and McClay was shot in the head.

Authorities said other customers in the store during the shooting rushed out and called police.

Now, police need the public's help identify the woman seen on store surveillance video so justice can be fully served.

"We believe there's people out there that can look at what we have to date and give us an idea of who they believe that is. Somebody knows her," Whelan said.

A $20,000 reward has been posted for information that leads to arrests in this case. Authorities said that still stands as they try to find the woman involved in this case as well.

If you have any information, you are urged to call either the Chester police or the Delaware County District Attorney's Office, Kinchen reported.
