Stray Bullet Hits Woman Sitting On Steps, Wounded Man Critical
A 61-year-old woman is recovering this morning after getting caught in the crossfire during a shooting in Cobbs Creek.
The woman was struck by a bullet while she was sitting on her steps near 63rd and Walton streets late Sunday night.
Police believe the intended target was a 32-year-old man.
He was shot several times in the head, stomach, legs and arms and remains in critical condition.
"At least 31 – that's 31 – shots were fired from two separate caliber handguns. We found 31 spent shell casings along the highway and the sidewalk in the 6200 block of Walton Street," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Police say revenge appears to be the motive. They believe the man was shot in retaliation from an earlier incident.
