ObamaCare simplified: What you need to know

PHOENIX -

President Obama's plan for health care gets going in just about one week. It's a change that will have an effect on almost every American.

Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act gets started on October 1.

There are a lot of moving parts to this, and it can be incredibly confusing if you're not up to speed on how all these changes will affect you.

Here are a few things to remember:

It does away with pre- existing conditions. This means anyone can be insured, and in fact if you choose not to be insured, then you'll face a fine.

A valley doctor also says it'll likely best serve the uninsured, minorities, lower-income individuals and people over 50 who may have lost coverage during the recession.

Here's what Dr. Nicholas Vasquez, MD of emergency medicine, shared with us today.

"The greatest thing about the insurance you buy through the exchange is that when you leave your job, your insurance goes with you. No longer will you be stuck at a job just to get coverage. The second thing is no one will be denied coverage, no one will be subject to a lifetime cap and the most important thing I want people to know is if you get sick you won't go broke."

Dr. Vasquez also said the federal government is handling the cost of ObamaCare in Arizona. This isn't the case in some states, and because of that, we are awaiting the cost Arizonans could pay.

Vasquez says an online portal could be announced any day now.
