Sports Illustrated Talks About The Twitter 100

Posted: Updated:

Twitter has changed the way a lot of people watch and talk about sports, so Sports Illustrated has come out with the list of the Twitter 100. These are the 100 people all sports fans should follow and there are some interesting names on the list.

No current Philadelphia athletes made the twitter 100, but there is a big name, from our area. Lakers star and Lower Merion High School graduate Kobe Bryant made the top 100. Kobe only joined twitter in January of this year. However, in only a year, Kobe has over 3.5 million followers. He also made news on twitter this year when he unfollowed former teammate Dwight Howard.

Another name on this year's Twitter top 100 is Johnny Manziel. The Texas A&M quarterback is always in the news. His Twitter account has gone silent a couple of times during his recent controversies, but almost 600,000 people currently follow Johnny.

One of the more interesting names on Sports Illustrated's Twitter 100 is Samuel L. Jackson. The actor joined Twitter back in 2009 and is known for entertaining his 2.8 million followers with his take on some of the biggest sporting events in the world. He's tweeted about everything from the fashion at the Olympic Games to the NBA finals.

Sports Illustrated also broke down the most tweeted about sporting events of the year. Number one on that list is the sporting event that turned into a major news-story. The Boston-Marathon Bombing was tweeted about over 27 million times. That was followed by the NBA finals and the Super Bowl.

Those three events were far and away the most tweeted-about-sporting events. Number four was March Madness with only about 4,5 million tweets.
