Commercial driver's license scam investigation

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

At Department of Motor Vehicle offices in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island, federal and state agents arrested 19 people for what is described as a ring of test takers and cheaters on exams for commercial driver licenses, or CDL. That license is required to drive large trucks and buses, including school buses, in New York.

Surveillance video, taken by investigators, allegedly shows a DMV security guard on Greenwich Street in lower Manhattan taking bribes. At one point cash is placed in her rear pocket.

Security guards were allegedly paid $2,500 to pass on information or allow cheaters to give a blank test through runners to a test taker outside the DMV office building.

One way people were allegedly helped was they were given a pencil for the test but the pencil and dots and dashes with the answers to the test questions.

The inspector general said that despite the elaborate cheating schemes no licenses were given the cheaters who still would have had to take a road test to obtain their licenses.
