Soldier Returns Dressed As Mascot

Posted: Updated:

A soldier's return was a surprise to his family when he made an unlikely appearance at a Kentucky high school football game.

Specialist Justin May wore a polar bear costume, the Bracken County High mascot, and surprised his brother and father at a game Friday night in Brooksville.

May's brother Ryan plays on the team, and his father, Ronald, is an assistant coach. He had just returned to his hometown after serving eleven months overseas, and said it was his mom's idea to make his grand entrance in costume.

"She called me one day and said hey would you like to show up for your brother's game and I thought it was a great idea," May said. "He had no idea what was going on for a few seconds, it was amazing. They had no idea I was out here or in that uniform or anything."

"It was crazy, I mean, just proud of him, glad to see he's home safe and told me you're in Texas today," Ronald May said.

The soldier joined his father and brother at midfield for the coin toss.
