Officer Inspires Others By Soaring To New Heights Despite Injury

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -

A San Diego police officer who lost his leg in a motorcycle accident is still proving that he's a daredevil. Detective James "Chappie" Hunter flies around on a jet pack above Mission Bay.

Ever since he lost his leg three months ago after he was hit by a 15-year-old driver, Hunter's been determined to keep living an active life and help other people as well.

The weekend event allowed Chappie to not only reach new heights, but also raise money for athletes with disabilities.

"The thing you have to understand is, yeah, you lost your leg, but you know what? ... Nothing else happened to me. I can still see my family. My wife and kids are the most important thing in the world to me," Hunter said.

The money raised from Sunday's event will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation. The charity provides opportunities and support for physically disabled people so they can pursue active lifestyles.

"For me to work hard to get to this point to be able to do something like this, it helps motivate others to do the same thing," Hunter said.
