Police: Suspects In Van Caught On Tape Attempting To Lure Child

LINDENWOLD, N.J. -

Melissa Morales is keeping a close eye on her two children after police released surveillance video of a white work van cruising through the Arborwood Condo complex in Lindenwold last week.

It was right around the time two young girls say a man tired to lure them into the van.

"A gentleman jumped out all dressed in black, with a black ski mask on, and told them, 'Your mom told me to come and pick you up and give you a ride home,'" Det. Chris Sherrer told FOX 29.

Police say the girls, ages 9 and 10, ran away. The suspect chased them before returning to the GMC van and fleeing.

"It doesn't have any markings on it, no back windows," Sherrer said. "The cargo area door, instead of it being one of those pop-and-slide doors, it's a double opening door."

"Now I have to sit outside with my kids and monitor them all the time. It's frightening, very frightening," Morales said.

Investigators released the video showing the van parked in the complex around 8 o'clock on Sept. 25. The van can be seen at several locations in the complex.

Police need the public's help finding the van, the man in black and the driver.

"My kids, they're aware. They say, 'Mom, it's a white van.' They're even shook up. They're to the point they don't want to be outside," Morales added.

Morales says the luring attempt has this whole neighborhood on edge.

"Everybody's talking about it," she said. "Everybody's on the safe side. Kids are mostly in the house now. I hope they catch them."

There have been other attempted lurings in our area involving two men and a white work van. Local police are speaking with other departments, comparing notes and hoping to make some arrests quickly.

Anyone with information should call Lindenwold Police Det. Ronald Burrows at (856) 784-4800.
