Caremerge takes elderly health care into 21st century: Momentum Awards

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Entrepreneurs are making a huge difference in the Chicago economy. Three new companies were in competition for the top start-up companies at The Momentum Awards Wednesday night.

One of them is Caremerge, a business that is taking elderly health care into the 21st century, saving healthcare providers money and updating family about their loved ones care.

Co-founder Asif Khan says his company is changing Chicago in two major ways.

"First we're solving a big problem. We're making people's lives better and giving them peace of mind," Khan said. "Senior living facilities use our solution to capture regulatory compliance information. We stream it to the family on one side and then to the providers on the other. So everybody is on the same page.

"The family members want to know on a daily, regular basis what's going on with their loved ones," Khan continued. "They want to know, ‘Is my mom taking medications? Is she doing ok? Is she being social? I want to make sure she isn't sitting in her room, looking at the walls."

Caremerge provides real-time stream of everything that is going on, to give families peace of mind.

But the partnerships are also important. The Assisted Living Coalition's facilities are using Caremerge technology and services, so that the state of Illinois doesn't have to spend so much money and the facilities' resources aren't limited.

"We just got funded by international investors," Khan said. "That's about a couple million bucks, right here in Chicago.

Caremerge is based out of 1871 at Merchandise Mart, the hub for tech start-ups in the city.

Anna Davlantes had the honor of hosting the Momentum Awards. FOX 32 News will be profiling local entrepreneurs all week long, putting a spotlight on this important and growing part of our local economy.
