    FOX 29 Interviews Gracie Evans

It was a story that people around the country found heartbreaking and inspiring: A father, given months to live, walks his unmarried daughters down the aisle. On Thursday, FOX 29's Iain Page talked to Gracie Evans, one of those daughters, about the overwhelming response her dad's story.

This is a story we first told you about on Monday. They're heartbreaking pictures as Fred Evans, given just months to live, walks his unmarried daughters down the aisle.

The story has gone viral. Millions of people were touched by it on our Facebook page.

FOX 29's Iain Page spoke Thursday to Gracie Evans, one of those daughters, about their story.

There are few things as touching as a father walking his daughter down the aisle.

Fred Evans had given away one of his three daughters. But after being diagnosed with cancer and given just months to live, he feared he wouldn't be around when his two unmarried daughters, Gracie and Kate, tied the knot one day.

So, he walked them down the aisle at a church in a surprise ceremony to give them his blessing in front of family and friends.

"I was confused at first thinking why do I have a bouquet of flowers? And then he gave us a handkerchief that he made with the date and 'Love, Dad' on it," Gracie said. "And he said, 'I won't be here for this day in the future. And I want you to know that I love you, and I'm proud of you.'"

Recalling those words, Gracie said, "I just lost it."

This story of a father's love for his daughters has gone viral, and Gracie is overwhelmed at the response from all over the country.

"To see the outcome of this, to see how it's touched people's lives, and to see what an impact this little act that my father did for us, it's amazing," she said.

Speaking of amazing, more than 19 million people viewed the story on our Facebook page and MyFOXPhilly.com.

"It means so much to know that, you know, his act of kindness, his act of love has touched other people's lives," Gracie said.

A beautiful moment that touched so many – but a few haters on social media made some negative comments about Gracie and the fact that she has one leg.

Her sister Kate had her back and rushed to her defense. But Gracie didn't read any of the comments and says she's not disabled.

"I don't think of myself as disabled. When I say 'I'm disabled,' I actually put it in quotations because I am very much able and can do so much," she said.

She already has. And when her day comes to walk down the aisle for real, Gracie says her dad will be there with her.

"It'll be a good moment. It'll be a happy moment, of course," she said. "… Just to know that my dad thought of that – my dad loved us, and he wanted that to be a special moment for us."

She added, "He knew that it was important for us and important for him, as well, and that he wanted to be a part of it, and he most definitely will be."

Fred had one more surprise. He told his wife he wanted them to renew their vows in front of their family. Does it get any sweeter?

On a lighter note, Page asked Gracie, who lives in Dallas, if she was a fan of FOX 29. And it turns out she is. To see her hilarious response involving "Good Day Philadelphia's Mike Jerrick and Sheinelle Jones, watch the complete interview by clicking right here.
