Are our parenting efforts giving our children anxiety? According to new data from the National Institute of Mental Health, one in every four kids has a diagnosable anxiety disorder.
But why is that?
Some psychologists believe there is more stress on kids and less coping skills. Faye De Muyshondt, author of "Socialsklz:-) for Success," says that social media and technology bombard young kids, and they haven't yet developed ways to handle the stimulus while maintaining communication skills.
"Parents need to equip children with these vital social interaction and communication skills," De Muyshondt says, which she explains further in her book. "The basic skills that used to be picked up now need to be taught."
