Last year SEPTA riders and employees collected 19 tons of food. That's almost 38,000 meals for their annual "Stop Hunger At Your Station" food drive.
The drive runs today through October 21st at all of SEPTA's 44 stations. The donated items are then given to Philabundance.
Good things to donate are canned pastas, soups, vegetables, peanut butter and jelly in plastic containers.
On November 1st, the SNAP stimulus ends, which means that families in need will get less economic aid on food. If everyone donated one can of food on their morning SEPTA commute, it would total about 1 million cans in one day to stock shelves and help people all over the city.
