CrossFit workouts for children

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

CrossFit training has been growing in popularity among Hollywood celebrities like Jessica Biel, Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz.

Michelle Kelber, a CrossFit kids coach in Long Island City, has adapted the high-intensity program for children. Kelber says the movements they learn in here will help them be strong in every sport or activity they do, even as simple as carrying all those books to school in a backpack.

The children are learning a strength training fitness program that has been done by grownups for years. It has been used to train recruits in police departments and the military.

Coaches hope by introducing children this program they will learn early how to stay fit well into adulthood.

Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled a sweeping report Thursday that examined New York City's recovery progress from Superstorm Sandy and promised to reform a much-maligned program that was supposed to rebuild wrecked homes. Speaking to about 50 homeowners, officials and community leaders in a storm-battered Staten Island neighborhood, the mayor said the city is aiming to start rebuilding an ambitious 500 homes through its federally funded Build-It-Back program.
