PHILADELPHIA -

Former Phillies Larry Bowa and Pete Mackanin have joined the team's coaching staff, Manager Ryne Sandberg announced today. Additionally, Steve Henderson will return as hitting coach while Wally Joyner has declined to return as assistant hitting coach.

Bowa, 67, will serve as the bench coach. It will be his second stint as a Phillies coach. Bowa played for the Phillies for 12 years (1970-81), was the third base coach for nine years (1988-96) and spent four seasons (2001-04) as the manager. Over the past three years, Bowa has been an in-studio analyst for MLB Network.

Mackanin, who is returning as the third base coach, spent four years (2009-12) as Phillies bench coach under former manager Charlie Manuel. He worked this past season as a pro scout for the Yankees, a post he previously held in 2008. During his major league playing career, Mackanin appeared in 18 games with the Phillies over the 1978-79 seasons.

The Phillies began reshuffling their coaching staff by firing pitching coach Rich Dubee after the season.
