Jersey Shore Preps For Nasty Nor’easter

Posted: Updated:
CAPE MAY COUNTY, N.J. -

The Jersey Shore is bracing for a nasty October Nor'easter.

A slow moving storm is moving toward our area right now and it's packing a lot of rain and wind.

It's not predicted to be another super storm, but anytime you hear potential nor' easter people down the shore get a little anxious.

In Avalon and across Cape May County, officials are warning people about the potential flooding in low lying Back Bay areas.

The Ocean Drive Bridge over Townsend's Inlet is closed because of high waves crashing over the roadway.

Another storm is certainly a major concern for this stretch of beach. Much of Stone Harbor and Avalon just went through a year of beach replenishment projects finishing this summer.

Much of the shoreline has already been washed away, and officials are worried the next two high tides during this storm will do even more damage.

"They are predicting 7 to 8 and a half foot tide which is about 3 foot height than normal. We're not looking at a Sandy high tide but it will flood in the low lying areas. The other concern is the high winds. We're predicting 40-45 miles per hour Northeast," Marty Pagliughi of Cape May Emergency Management said.

Residents are also taking precautions, you'll hear from them coming up tonight at 10
