ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WJBK) -

An early morning fire has caused major damage at a popular St. Clair Shores restaurant.

The fire at Gilbert's Lodge on Harper Avenue began in the kitchen area around 4 a.m. Thursday, FOX 2's Amy Andrews reports. Fire crews arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the flames, but not before they caused heavy damage.

"The damage inside is pretty extensive," said Battalion Chief Michael Witt with the St. Clair Shores fire department.

No injuries were reported.

Officials believe the fire was most likely accident, but the cause remains under investigation.
