Pregnant Mother Injured in Hit & Run

University City -

Family members say Monae Palmer was on her way to CHOP to be by her one year old daughters side, but she never made it.

Surveillance video shows the 22 year old mother take a nasty spill Thursday night while riding her bike down the 3800 block of Spruce Street in University City. Police say as she tried to get back on her feet, she was hit by a car coming the other way.

"Watching that video is putting myself through torture," Monae's husband Tyrell Palmer said. "I wish I was there to protect her…I felt that pain and I wasn't even there."

Now the West Philly mother, who Palmer says is 10 weeks pregnant with their second child, is recovering at HUP. He says she suffered broken bones, bruised lungs, blood on her brain, and memory loss.

"I think it's heartless…I'm looking at video and it looks like he hit her on purpose with no intention of slowing down." Palmer added.

Police say someone driving a dark colored four door sedan is responsible for the hit and run. They believe the car may have vanity or out of state tags and damage to the left bumper.

Palmer is now forced to split time between his one year old daughter, Aaliyah, who was recently admitted to CHOP, and his pregnant wife, Monae, who he married two years ago this month.

"I hope I get justice. Any real man wants justice for his wife…and hope someone comes forth and says something," Palmer said.

Palmer says his wife is finally breathing on her own. The ten week old baby she is carrying is okay. He is hoping someone sees the video and turns the hit and run driver in.
