WASHINGTON -

We are now 14 days into the U.S. government shutdown and, although there are signs of progress, there is still no deal in sight.

The Senate met Sunday in a rare Sunday session.

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid and Republican Mitch McConnell have now taken charge of trying to find a way to end the shutdown and raise the country's borrowing limit before time runs out.

The U.S. could default on its bills if there's no debt ceiling deal by Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Statue of Liberty, which was closed because of the government shutdown, reopened over the weekend.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced lawmakers in New York decided to foot the bill to keep the landmark open. Cuomo said the cost is small compared to the tourism revenue the state was losing.

But it's unclear when, or if, tourist operations will resume from the New Jersey side of the statue.

Veterans gather in the nation's capital to take part in the "Million Vet March" and protest the government shutdown. Crowds at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., this weekend took down metal barriers.

That allowed hundreds of veterans to stream into the memorial that is officially closed.

The vets say they're fed up with the government shutdown, which they say is only hurting everyday Americans.

The veterans also marched to the White House to protest how they've been treated during the shutdown.

Closer to home, Valley Forge National Park is still closed due to the shutdown. And runners are getting frustrated.

On Sunday, they staged a protest, running around the historical park, since they can't run in it.

Dozens of runners have been ticketed for violating the closure order. The tickets cost each runner $100.

The U.S. National Park Service says safety is the main concern, but most runners don't believe that's the case.

A number of veterans also staged a march at the historical park yesterday. The group "Citizens for Liberty" hosted a rally protesting the park's closure
