Special Forces Soldier From Pa. Dies In Afghanistan

The Department of Defense announced the death of Staff Sgt. Patrick H. Quinn, 26, of Quarryville, Pa.

He died on Oct. 13, in Paktika Province, Afghanistan from injuries sustained when the enemy attacked his base with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group of Fort Carson, Colorado.

According to the US Army Special Forces, Quinn enlisted as an infantryman in the US Army in July,  2006. He served one combat deployment in Iraq from 2008 to 2009. He then volunteered for the Special Forces Assessment and Selection, graduating from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2013 and becoming a Green Beret.

Quinn is a decorated soldier. He was also posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with Campaign Star) and the NATO Medal.

He is survived by his wife and their three sons
