"Captain Phillips" is all the buzz recently, and people are talking about the phenomenal acting. Tom Hanks gets a lot of praise, but the actor who plays the pirate leader is also receiving a lot of compliments. Somali actor Barkhad Abdi was on Good Day to talk about his role.
Abdi was born in Somalia and left the place when he was seven.
"I witnessed a whole year of war."
He ended up in Minneapolis at Age 14. His mom won the American Visa Lottery. It changed his life.
It was his first film, he tells FOX 29. "I was just blessed to work with such a great director and good crew."
Abdi tells FOX 29 that he casting call on a local TV channel and he checked it out.
