BOGOTA, N.J. (AP) - An aging bridge over the Hackensack River will close to give engineers a chance to assess how badly it's deteriorated.

Local officials say the 113-year-old Midtown Bridge probably will remain closed for 10 days.

Bogota council president Tito Jackson told The Record he notified the borough's administrator after he felt the bridge shaking as he drove across recently. Jackson said he noticed metal sticking up from the roadway at both ends.

County engineers ordered the bridge closed for inspection.

The Record reports the bridge was closed for several weeks in 1998 due to problems with steel joints. While it's known as the Midtown Bridge, its actual name is the William C. Ryan Memorial Bridge, for a Marine Corps pilot who was killed in Vietnam.
