Bernadette's Fight Against CMT, Disease Few Know About

Posted: Updated:

Charcot-Marie-Tooth… never heard of it? It's called the most common inherited disease that no one knows has heard of, yet it effects 1 out of every 2,500 people in the United State.

Now, one local woman has made it her mission to get the word out and raise money in hopes of one day finding a cure.

Bernadette Scarduzio joined "Good Day Philadelphia" on Thursday morning to share her story.

A documentary tells the Havertown native and Haverford High School graduate's story, aiming to raise awareness of the disease.

CMT is a degenerative disease that causes nerve and muscle deterioration. It's named for the three doctors who first identified it in 1886.

There are many different forms of CMT, but no cure at this time.
