Hamtramck urban farm may be sold and turned into parking lot

Posted: Updated:
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (WJBK) -

An urban farm in Hamtramck is at risk of being shutdown after a nearby business is offering to buy the land.

Hamtramck is run by a state-appointed emergency manager, who says the company wants the land for a buffer zone or parking lot.

But Mike Davis of Hamtown Farms isn't giving up the fight yet. Davis says seeing the urban farm - which provides public picking - go away for a few thousand dollars would be mind-blowing.

Click the video player for Randy Wimbley's report and hear from Hamtramck mayor Karen Majewski on the issue.
