Iconic Christmas Moment Frozen In Time

HAMMOND, Indiana -

An iconic movie moment is now "frozen in time" in Hammond, Indiana.

We all remember that "triple-dog dare" scene in "A Christmas Story," where Flick gets his tongue frozen to a flag pole.

Now, a new statue commemorating the unforgettable scene is standing outside Indiana Welcome Center. The actor who played Flick, Scott Schwartz, was at the statue unveiling.

"I'm pretty much speechless at this point. I mean, that's pretty awesome. That's amazing. It's breathtaking," he told the crowd.

Schwartz didn't actually stick his tongue to this flag pole to film the scene, like many believed. Instead, a hole was cut in the pole, and a little suction cup sucked his tongue, giving off the impression that it was stuck.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the film. It was turned into a Broadway musical last year. The film is based on the childhood of writer Jean Shepherd, who grew up in Hammond. The character of Flick was based off his real-life friend Jack Flickinger.
