Canton bicyclist in serious condition after hit by a car

Canton, Mich. (WJBK) -

A Canton resident is recovering in the hospital after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Canton.

Canton Police officers were called to the accident scene on Joy Road west of Lilley Road on Wednesday shortly after 5 p.m.

The bicyclist, a 44-year-old Canton resident, was riding when he or she suddenly swerved into the other lane and was struck by a 2011 Honda Odyssey, being driven by an 84-year-old Canton resident.

The bicyclist has been transported to St. Joseph Hospital by Canton EMS and is listed in serious condition.

Police say alcohol may be a factor in the collision. The incident remains under investigation.
