Will changes come to Chicago airports after the LAX shooting?

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Flights around the country are slowly going back to normal, but will that be the case for security at Chicago airports? That's the concern for many passengers as they head to airports after the shooting at LAX.

The alleged gun man was able to make his way through the TSA checkpoint into the terminal. According to officials in Los Angeles, the TSA had just trained for a shooter situation at LAX just a few weeks ago.

Are airports in Chicago prepared for shooter situations like this one?

"They're very well designed and it's a layered approach. Can somebody come in with a weapon like that into an area that's not screened and start shooting? Absolutely, it can happen in any place in America," says Arnette Heintze, CEO of Hillard Heintze.

Heintze feels it may be too premature to add additional security to airports to prevent situations like the one in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, he adds, these tragedies can happen anywhere, adding that travelers should still feel safe at airports.

"These incidents occur in our society, as a society we can do a better job knowing of when individuals are troubled and then how our corporations, how our society, how are families should respond and look for help," Heintze says.

Heintze says it is still too early to determine if airports will change any security measures, but he expects that there will not be any major changes.
